Grappling for recognition, attention among Texas high school sports
Like many inexperienced wrestlers in Texas, Alex LeGrande left home with the realization that the purpose was one pin away.
No future in the sport LeGrande waited on the other side of the UIL Wrestling Championships phase. The lanky, sandy-haired senior from Allen Extreme School had already decided to enroll in community college next year, to affect the fight back with letter jackets, study halls and the trappings of Other top university. His last game in Austin would be the last of his life.
So LeGrande arrived Friday morning at the Delco Center for an acquaintance who weighed between melancholy and triumph.
